The time of year for another Overwatch hero to join the roster is here! Overwatch’s 31st hero, Sigma, is up on the public test servers for PC and will soon join the rest of the heroes on all platforms with the official release. The new hero will be the 8th tank in the lineup, as well as the first tank for the in-game villain team, Talon.

Sigma will be voiced by Boris Hiestand, who is known for working on Guardians of the Galaxy; within the animation department. Fans will recognize his voice from Anthem, as he voiced Marl, and the lesser-known Lords of the Fallen from 2014. Hiestand is known as a voice actor in many other small projects, as well as amination for many different movies, including Harry Potter and Hotel Transylvania

Sigma’s abilities and primary attack are all gravity-based and give him a leg up on the other tanks. With his “Experimental Barrier” Sigma can place a shield much like Orisa, yet can recall it and re-energize it like Reinhardt. Sigma’s “Accretion” allows him to collect debris and fling it, bringing any hero to a halt. His primary attack, “Hyperspheres” launch two bouncy gravitic charges, then end their path of bouncy pain with an implosion, causing even more damage to nearby enemies. “Kinetic Grasp” almost removes the need for healers, as it allows Sigma to stop projectiles in their path and convert into shields. His ultimate move, “Gravitic Flux” sends foes into the air, and back down, slamming them into the ground.

On July 22, Sigma’s hero backstory was placed on the Overwatch site. This provided us with Sigma’s real name, Siebren de Kuiper, age 62, and the first Dutch hero. This astrophysicist, who once operated out of The Hague, underwent a horrible accident and found his mind shattered after being exposed to a black hole he created during his experiments. After being freed from the secret government facility by Talon, Sigma was able to finally learn to control his powers and come “closer than ever to achieving his life’s goal.” With his mind broken by the same experiment that gave him his powers and a better understanding of the universe, Sigma continues to master his research and powers, while unknowingly aiding Talon in their evil ways.
