At E3 2017, I got a first hands look at ELEX: an upcoming 3rd person open-world RPG coming from THQ Nordic and Piranha Bytes. The game takes place in a post apocalyptic world. Players in the game use the ELEX as a power source that can give players magical abilities and powers.
The game has multiple factions to choose from although each faction has a special set of abilities and skill sets to choose from as you progress through the game. The Berserkers use ELEX for magic, the Outlaws who operate exactly as you’d expect – like outlaws, and finally, the Clerics who use different elements and substances to power their machines.
As you play you will notice how large in scale the game truly is. In fact, the entire area has no loading at all throughout the game which gives it a seamless experience. The game is truly massive in size and scope. Day and night transitions are observed as well which really gives the game a tone of depth, and allows the player to truly get lost in the environment. There are about 80 hours of gameplay with over 300,000 lines of audio. This alone gives you an idea of how large the game truly is.
But what makes the game genuinely unique is everything you do the game will react accordingly. Don’t feel like aligning yourself with someone? You don’t have to. Don’t feel like helping someone out? Keep on moving. But each decision you make will weigh an effect on the game’s story and scenario. This will give the game great replay value depending on what decisions you make each time you engage with someone. Already scaled at 80 hours of play time, this gives the player an even larger opportunity to see what other scenarios can play out with their given responses. In the end, you are in control of the story and your decisions will have a huge outcome on how the world will be ruled.
ELEX is set for release on October 17th for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. For more on ELEX, keep it locked to Mammoth Gamers!
