The Golf Club 2: E3 2017 Impressions

At E3 2017, I got a chance to take a look at The Golf Club 2 – the sequel to the premiere golf game simulator from Maximum Games during a closed door demonstration. And I am happy to report that this game is taking everything great from its predecessor and improving upon it even more by adding new features, game play modes, and a course creator mode that is so in depth, you’d think you were playing SimCity or Cities: Skylines.

Starting out, The Golf Club 2 added a new swing with the right analog stick called the tempo swing. This swing mechanic will seem familiar for fans of the EA Sports PGA Tour series but The Golf Club 2 gives you immediate feedback with your swing by letting the player know how their swing is as it gets immediately analyzed. This can immediately help you as you play the game as the feedback can be used to help you perfect your swing through time and practice.

The game has multiple modes of play in this iteration including a career mode that can be managed online. Players have the opportunity to create their own clubhouses as big or as small as they want. From there players are able to run their own societies and recruit other members into their clubhouse and create events. This literally gives unlimited opportunities to create and play the game exactly how you want, and add as many tournaments to your season as you want. This gives the player full customization at their fingertips.

But where The Golf Club 2 really stands out to me is the customization options. From the course customization to the player customizations, this game has it all. Let’s talk about the course customization first. When it comes to designing your course, the sky’s the limit. No seriously it truly is – you can even have cities with skyscrapers in the background of your course. But as far as course conditions, you can have your typical fairways and greens to desert options. Bunkers can be placed anywhere, trees, heck even animals can be placed in certain positions on the course map. I have never seen customization options so detailed for a golf game and players will easily be able to replicate real life courses down to the yard. Want to design the island hole at TPC Sawgrass? Done. What about Amen Corner from Augusta National? Easy. Your options are endless and are only limited by your imagination. It will be great to see what players come up with and what is even better is that all user designed courses can be imported from the first Golf Club game as well.

As far as player customizations, you won’t have many limits there either. I think the next step for the team at HB Studios would be to add face scan options into the game but other than that, you have a variety of options and tools to work with. And if you give your player a variety of clothing options and they are participating in a 4 round tournament, they will change into those clothes for each round without you having to set it yourself. Convenient and a nice touch too.

The Golf Club 2 is coming along very nicely and I for one can’t wait to see what the finished product is like. The game launch is right around the corner and is set for release on June 27th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For more on The Golf Club 2, keep it locked to Mammoth Gamers!
