Mattel Unveils Tomb Raider Barbie

IGN just revealed that toy maker Mattel will be releasing a new Barbie Tomb Raider Barbie doll, based on the upcoming movie version of Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft.

The Barbie features a gray tank top with cargo pants, much like Lara Croft’s rebooted design since the series reboot in 2013. She’s also bandaged up and holds her climbing axe.

The figure will include numerous accessories such as a map, journal, and a doll stand. The figure will also include a certificate of authenticity.

Tomb Raider is returning to the movie screens soon. Alicia Vikander stars as the lead role where the film follows more of the grimy, violent Lara Croft that we’ve come to know over the past few years. The last video game franchise with a Hollywood film was Assassin’s Creed in 2016, and that ended up not doing so well. Who knows maybe the new Tomb Raider will do better.

Not only are we getting this new movie, there is word of another Tomb Raider game coming sometime this year, that we’ll probably know more about around the time of the movie’s debut. The new rebooted game series ended up doing well on release, so we can expect the same amount of quality from the team over at Crystal Dynamics.

As for the doll itself, it’s pretty cool. I like the idea of kids playing with this badass toy, going on adventures much like the Lara Croft herself. Do kids still play with action figures? I hope so, there’s definitely a bunch more options then when I was younger. I know I wanted some good action figures of Link and Cloud when I was younger but none existed. Now I just casually find them in the discount bin at the store whenever I go. It’s unfair!

The Tomb Raider doll is currently available for presale on the Barbie website for $29.99. The Tomb Raider film reboot is set to premiere March 16th.'
